School Break Groceries (4)

In New Haven, summer meals are offered at several locations around the city from June to late August. These sites serve a combination of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for anyone under the age of 18. This is a critical resource for families, as 39% of New Haven families with at least one child reported being food insecure. Unfortunately, this program ends a week before school starts, which means students who rely on these sites while school is out are now left without a place to go.

To help bridge this gap, United Way of Greater New Haven is partnering with local organizations* to host a School Break Groceries distribution! This is a program that runs during breaks in the school calendar to ensure students and their families have access to nutritious food. Join us on Saturday, August 15, to help distribute groceries and support local families as they prepare for the school year!

*This event is coordinated in partnership with the Coordinated Food Assistance Network, Carbonella & DeSarbo, Witnesses to Hunger, Cathedral of Higher Praise, Connecticut Foodshare, Loaves and Fishes, New Haven Inner City Enrichment Center, Beulah Heights Church, and New Haven Public Schools/Central Kitchen.
